Gen-Y Hitch for the Ultimate RAM
After installing the Wilco Offroad Hitchgate product we soon realized we needed a large, heavy-duty drop hitch. Our internet research led to the one and only – Gen-Y Hitch.
We learned all we could about their GH-328 adjustable 17.5″ drop hitch system as well as the companion product stabilizer bars to further enhance our towing system when hauling a several ton trailer.
The Gen-Y products are on the way to our shop and we will be posting more information, photos, video and a write-up on what appears to be a very solid, hard-core product which the Motor City’s Ultimate Ram Project is all about — and best of all — Gen-Y is another MADE IN AMERICA product!
HITCHGATE by Wilco Off-Road OTW!
We are very excited to announce that Wilco Off-Road will be joining the Motor City’s Ultimate Ram Project once again. We used their HITCHGATE product on our Ultimate F150 project some years ago and were very happy with it – It draws a lot of attention due to its incredible design and functionality. The one we configured for our Ram project will also carry our Hi-Lift Jack and a steel military Jerry Can.
Project Build Wrap-up
We are nearing the point with the Motor City’s Ultimate Ram Project where 95% of our chosen accessories have been installed. We are waiting for the arrival of our Wilco Offorad HITCHGATE spare tire (and Hi-Lift jack + Jerry Can Carrier) to complete the rear of the Ram with our 37″ Toyo. Wilco is a great American company who fully support our troops and law enforcement. We’ve used there hard-core HITCHGATE back on our Ultimate F150 Project and it is bullet proof and looks tough as h$ll.

Surco Safari Rack INSTALLED
We spend a few hours installing the Surco Safari Rack and its many accessories. The rack itself is built very well – it is rugged and sturdy yet lightweight for its size due to its aluminum construction.
It came standard with three of the floor slats so we opted to upgrade to the floor kit which brought the total to 9. The Safari Rack fastened to our already installed roof rack bars using mounting hardware that came with the Safari Rack.
We also upgraded to the Surco Safari Rack Hi-Lift Jack mount as well as the axe and shovel mount which also were installed. We still have four Surco light mounts as well as the spare tire mount to add to the build.
Overall, installation was extremely easy — just one person and a few hours to wrap it all up. The only tools needed were a tape measure and large phillips head screwdriver.

- Surco Safari Rack
SURCO Safari Rack
We have taken delivery of an exceptionally fine product from SURCO — their Safari Rack with all the trimmings – Hi-Lift Jack mount, shovel and axe mount, lighting mounts and a spare tire mount. We hope to have this installed within the next few weeks and will post updates and photos here so check back soon!
Using “The Club” – very nice.
We are now using “the Club” – because they last forever, we haven’t upgraded our 20 year old club – until now. This new model is very nice, much improved key / locking system and matches our truck!
The one, the only, “The Club” & Personal Vault XL
With a classic motor city truck build, we had to include the original name in vehicle anti-theft and security – “The Club” and their Club XL in blue and also a new product – Personal Vault XL for securing items inside the vehicle.
FABSTUFF Completes Custom Exhaust
Eric from FABSTUFFf fabricated an incredible stainless exhaust system which provides up to 13″ of clearance for those days we go air-born (never will happen Eric :))

Fabstuff Scheduled for Exhaust Modification
We’ve enlisted the help of a Michigan custom fabricating shop – FABSTUFF – to do the exhaust work. After the BDS suspension lift, the exhaust is in the way on the driver side which prevented the installation of the front drive shaft and also the BDS upper control arm. Eric from FABSTUFF will be modifying the factory stainless exhaust rerouting it from the drivers side to the passenger side. This will also move the exhaust up higher to the underbody which will provide about 3″ more of clearance than the stock exhaust configuration.
